Galaxy a50 notification sound not working for message reply

I find this behaviour a bit strange. If I send a message and the recipient replies promptly there is no notification sound when the reply arrives. If the recipient waits a minute or so before replying then there is a notification sound. Is this done by design?

Sorted, Samsung support tell me this is normal behaviour.

Yes, I have the same issue with my new phone . Also when sending texts , it sounds but not when picture attachment is included. I find this annoying.
