Contacts deleted

Hi everyone. I woke up this morning to several of my contacts having been deleted. I've done a security check and everything seemed fine, so my current theory is there was a software update during the night that has caused this, so I'm curious to see if anyone else has experienced the same issue?

Have you checked recycle bin in your contacts?
Contacts > 3 dots > recycle bin

Also if contacts were synced you can go contacts > 3 dots > manage contacts > sync contacts > select account

My contacts weren't synced (althought they are now!), and there's nothing showing up in my recycle bin unfortunately

In 2023, there was new Google service policy, if you turn off contacts sync it will be deleted from device, but should be in the cloud, so if you haven't enabled sync, no contacts were in the cloud and maybe some glitch or something happened and deleted some of your contacts, as they were not present in the cloud.
