Hey,

I've noticed a problem with my A70 regarding trying to dim the screen when locking manually or expecting it to lock after screen timeout.

Basically, my phone won't sleep, at least not whilst charging. I spent a good while playing around with settings on my phone, such as timeout and lock screen settings. I also powered off the device but no luck.

After trying to figure out the problem further I discovered that the notification tray is being constantly updated every few seconds swapping between "Android system USB connector connected" and "Android system USB connector disconnected". So presumably this is what is keeping the phone awake as it thinks it is being constantly connected and disconnected from source USB source. I cleaned out the USB port but it was pretty clean to begin with. I'm not getting any notifications regarding any moisture detection.

The A70 charges just fine (though sometimes there is a slight delay to it recognising being plugged in) and it seems that the USB tethering interface is working well as I can use the remote debugging feature in Google Chrome (for web development purposes) just fine. As far as I can tell, there are no actual issues with the USB port - it functions as I would expect.

The A70 was last updated on the 14th August to "Security Patch level: 1 July 2019" and looking over the log of updates I see that "The charger/USB port's moisture detection algorithm has been improved" - so someone somewhere has been looking at this feature and I doubt it coincidence that my device has just developed a fault, given that I've not had it anywhere near moisture or excessive dirt.. and the port still actually works!

I've also tried Safe Mode but the issue persists. Also, if I power the device off, then plug it into the wall, power it on, the notification issue stops... until I unplug it/switch off the wall socket - then it comes back again.

Anyone else having similar problems?

Hey, I got the same problem and after some reserch I found info that the problem is affecting all the samsung phones and is likely because of aftermarket chargers. There was a suggestion to do following: 1. discharge your phone until it does not turn on (try to turn on until it doesnt), 2. put it in a bag of rice for couple of hours (I dont know why, maybe some error with moisture sensors), then 3. charge the phone (while it is turned off) with original charger/cable and leave it connected over night. Turn it on in the morning. Thats it. And then charge it only with original charger/cable until Samsung puts out an update.  Hope it helps

Hi all,

The developers analysed quite a few log files sent via the Members app, and they've identified this is a hardware issue from those. In any case, if all other troubleshooting suggested hasn't worked in your case, then the best route to take is to visit a Samsung Support Centre (or official network shop) to get your phone properly checked out and the appropriate repair carried out. :thumbs-up-sign-emoji-modifier-fitzpatrick-type:

Is the issue limited to a certain batch , geographical location, etc ?
How do we know the issue won't arise in our handsets? Or is it a wait and see thing ?

I resolved my problem by flashing latest firmware, download it from sammobile.com, download ODIN (Samsung firmware flashing program) extract the firmware then put the 4 files in the ODIN program. Turn off the phone, press power + vol up button and select reboot to bootloader connect the phone to your computer via USB then press start to start flashing. The flashing process takes 3mins. Enjoy!!

So it's software based issues not hardware? As in software and hardware incompatibility issues ? Or just buggy firmware

Happening to me too the last week or so - its dangerous as the phone stays on in your pocket - I made an inadvertant 000 emergency call via a pocket dial and had the operators call me to see what the emergency was!  I am in Sydney Australia and took the phone to the Samsung store this morning - the staff claimed not to have heard of the issue!  I showed them this forum and the guy cleaned my USB port, which of course did nothing.

It is intermittent on my A70 right now, and probably started happening after I downloaded the latest software upgrade on 29 December.  but I a fairly convinced (like everyone here) that is it is either a firmware or major hardware issue, not an issue with the UBS charging port itself.
