Hi,
I have 2 990Pro NVME ssds in my computer, both have firmware 4B2QJXD7 installed. I cannot update to the new firmware version 6B2QJXD7. I have tried both the iso boot image and Magician. Magician doesn't even show a new firmware is available.

Hello, I have the same problem, the 6B2 update has disappeared.
Why doesn't Samsung communicate about this issue to know if this microcode is faulty or if we can install it from the ISO or if an update of Magician is planned.

Hello there,
If you are on a Windows machine:
1. download NVMe SSD-990 Pro Series Firmware iso (Samsung_SSD_PRO_6B2QJXD7.iso from:
https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/tools/
2. download rufus-4.9p.exe from:
https://rufus.ie/en/#google_vignette
3. stick an empty usb pendrive into you computer
4. launch rufus-4.9p.exe and:
Device --> select your pendrive
Boot selection --> Disk or ISO image, then Select downloaded Samsung_SSD_PRO_6B2QJXD7.iso
Partition scheme -->MBR, Target system --> BIOS or UEFI
Volume labe --> Samsung, File system -->FAT32 (Default), Cluster size 8192 bytes (Default), then
START.
If rufus asks, select recommended options or "Yes".
After successful creation of bootable usb pendrive, restart computer and go to you BIOS.
Temporarily disable SecureBoot, save and restart, but during boot change the boot order selecting your just created usb pendrive. Start the PC from the usb pendrive.
You should see command-line-like screen with Samsung Firmware update.
Start the procedure. Good luck!

Hello,
The procedure described by Members_oVJQCN7 is okay, but not complete. This problem occurs on computers with Intel CPU and the Intel VMD RST Controller(s) (Rapid Storage Technology) installed. This controller denies the detection of Samsung SSD('s) by the software in the downloaded NVMe SSD-990 Pro Series Firmware iso (Samsung_SSD_PRO_6B2QJXD7.iso). So, there will not be updated anything and the program exits without error message.
Also Samsung Magician, running under Windows, does not detect a new version of the firmware, while it is there. Samsung Magician just shows “you are currently running the latest version of firmware” with the outdated version number.
Solution:
First; make a Windows restore point, back-up your data and create a Windows recovery drive.
Anyway you have to make a bootable usb pendrive according to the procedure described by Members_oVJQCN7, and to remove the Intel VMD RST Controller too, before rebooting from the USB pendrive.
The rather cumbersome procedure for removing Intel VMD RST is described here. After completing this procedure Windows is restarted normally with the Intel VMD RST Controller replaced by the Standard NVM Express Controller. Despite this, Samsung Magician still won't show any need to update message. So, we are not ready yet.
Now, restart with the USB pendrive installed and enter BIOS again. In BIOS, change the boot priority so that the USB pendrive is the first boot device. Also disable "Secure Boot Mode" and/or switch from "Windows EUFI Mode" to "Other OS" or something like that. After all, the OS on the bootable USB pendrive is Linux. Register all original BIOS settings, you changed, for resetting later.
After booting from the USB pendrive the software will ask you to press any key or to confirm with “y” to continue for several times. Next it will detect the SSD('s) and it updates the firmware of the SSD’s, if more then one, one by one after your repeated confirmations.
When the update is completed, restart your computer, remove the USB pendrive immediately during POST and enter BIOS again. Reset the switches to the "Secure Boot Mode", the "Windows UEFI Mode" and the boot priority to "Windows Boot Manager" first, or whatever they originally were.
DO NOT enable VMD in BIOS now (You disabled VMD in BIOS before by the first procedure). Enabling VMD will lead to a serious boot failure (inaccessible boot device), because the VMD RST driver is no more there.
Windows will start up, after exiting BIOS, normally, but now with the Standard NVM Express Controller as Storage Controller. Samsung Magician will show now again that you are currently running the latest version of firmware (and that is now indeed the actual 6B2QJXD7 and no more the outdated number).
Getting back to VMD is done by running under Windows the “Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver installer”, as supplied by your motherboard manufacturer (recommended) or the Intel generic driver SetupRST.exe. SetupRST.exe is downloaded from here. This will reinstall the Intel VMD RST controller. It should enable VMD in BIOS automatically, but that can, if needed (because of a boot failure) be done manually too, by entering BIOS. However, reinstalling the Intel VMD RST Controller will also reintroduce the problem of failing to update the Samsung firmware and Samsung Magician incorrectly showing up to date status of outdated firmware, when Samsung publishes a new version of the firmware. Keep on using the Standard NVM Express Controller is worth a consideration for private users, since VMD is aimed at enterprise use.

I have two 990 Pros in my system now, planning on adding a third.
The 2 are updated to the 6B2QJXD7 firmware and I will want to update the third to the same but the download isn't available anymore.
Does anyone have a good download link for Samsung_SSD_PRO_6B2QJXD7.iso?
Thank you

Hello,
It appears Samsung has withdrawn version 6B2QJXD7. So I would stick with version 4B2QJXD7 (currently available from Samsung) until 7B2QJXD7 is released. Samsung also skipped 5B2QJXD7. Strange, but that's the way it is. Version 6B2QJXD7 works fine for me after the rather cumbersome update process (see previous post).

My desktop and old laptop were able to update the firmware after lots of tries without doing anything special using magician. My new laptop, however, refused to install then the firmware disappeared so I'm not going to bother with it.
Thursday
Hello,
Today, Samsung published firmware version 7B2QJXD7. My Samsung Magician detected the update (hyperlink) automatically. And the update was performed flawlessly and easy by Magician (I had already the VMD disabled in BIOS and the 'Standard NVM Express controller' set as storage controller in the 'Device Manager' , see previous post). But now I don't know if this would have worked if VMD had been enabled. But it is so far so good for me.
Saturday
Magician still doesn't work with VMD enabled. If I disable it then it can't see my drives. I'm very close to replacing those 990's with Corsair T705's.
