I have a new HW-S50A soundbar. The user manual clearly states I can use Tap Sound on this device by setting up Tap Sound on the Smartthings app.
However, I can't connect the soundbar to the Smartthings app. It's not included in the list of supported devices, and doesn't show up on a scan for the device.
Can someone tell me how to get Tap Sound working on the S50A?

I have same issue.
I contacted Samsung Support and told me Sound Bar HW-S50A are not compatible with Smartthings.
That's very sad because on Samsung Page of the product are compatible.

I've just taken a look at the manual and it appears you can connect it to your Samsung phone via the SmartThings app, to use the 'Tap Sound' feature. Click on the following link and scroll to page 36:
