My wife and I bought a pair or Smart Tag 2's a month ago, and have put them in our suitcases. We each 'own' our own Tag by registering it on the Smartthings app and share its location with the other. Having spent yesterday & today travelling by train across the Scottish Highlands and then south towards the Midlands, I have noticed some weird behaviour with my Smart Tag tracked with the Smartthings app.
Whilst hers, which always travels beside mine, behaves as expected with the Smartthings app, mine doesn't. Despite checking over a dozen times in a train journey of several hours and hundreds of miles, the map shows mine still in the Scottish Highlands at a station which it in fact left 24 hrs ago. This despite endless refreshes and full battery strength. Both bags/tags are about 5m from us. Search Nearby likewise locates both tags as being nearby in seconds, so the Bluetooth is working.
But if I choose Location History, I am correctly shown where my bag is with a few minutes of travel, as I travel South on the train. When my wife looks at my tag's location, which is shared with her, it is still up in the Highlands. She can't see Location History for my bag as she doesn't own it.
This is not the first time we've found weird Smart Tag 2 behaviour, with another tag but not this new pair, but this is very strange. It implies a Smart Things app bug but not a Tag fault. Both tags have been updated when setup as prompted.
Any ideas what's going on?
Edit: Just to update after reading a related post, turning my VPN off and refreshing doesn't help, although as the Tag pings off other Samsung phones, and GPS data isn't derived from your server, this shouldn't matter anyway.
