Watch 7 Ultra heartrate sensor

I have come across a problem with my Watch 7 Ultra, when checking heartbeat the watch sometimes works perfectly and takes the reading etc, but after a while throughout the day the watch will stop taking heartbeat readings (on demand using the Icon complication), when the watch fails to take heartbeat readings I have also noticed that AOD will stop working. If I were to remove the watch and refit it on the inside of my wrist and take heartbeat reading, 90 % of the time it would work again along with the AOD. I do have tattoo on my wrist, but this has never given me a problem on my Watch 5 Pro.

Hey 👋

I can't say for sure but unfortunately, I think this might be an ongoing issue.
I also have Tattoos on my watch wrist and ever since owning the watch 4 and 6 classic (I jumped past the 5 pro so never had a chance to test it) I've had the same problem with the sensors not working, this is due to the pigments of the tattoo (black isn't too bad but red being the worse, guess which colour the sensors sit on 🙈) restricting the light from the sensors to properly record a reading. Mine was so bad that the watch would keep locking itself (as if I had taken the watch off when in fact it was still on my wrist)

But there is a solution, after doing some research on here, another member had the same issue and suggested using the clear sticky bumper pads you use for doors etc. I pop one of them over the sensors and Avola, the watch works as it should and have had no issues besides the fact that you do have to remove the bumper when you need to charge the watch!

I haven't received my Ultra yet so I'm not sure if I will need to use them (most likely will) and what size the sensors are to what size bumper I will need.

I've posted a link of the bumpers I use and a photo of a bumper on the watch for your reference.

It's the tattoos causing this issue, wear the watch a little tighter by a notch and see what happens.

Hi all I've had the same problem with the 7 ultra. I've never had the problem with the 5 pro or the 6 classic. I've just purchased some clear pads 20mm by 2mm and they work fine. Hopefully a update mite resolve the problem.

Can you charge your watch OK with the clear pads? I was also wondering how easy the pads were to be removed as an when needed.

No mate the watch will not charge with the pad on. They are easy to just to pull off and re attach.
