Watch 5 Pro Routes not showing map

Hello, suspect I'm missing something extremely obvious, I thought I'd try out the Routes thing today - downloaded a GPX map to my phone, selected it on my watch as expected, but I didn't get the expected turn by turn directions on my watch as I hoped and expected, I get what seemed to be the stats for a normal walking workout and no obvious way to show the route. I ended up doing the walk using the phone's internal Samsung Health Routes service, but I don't want to be carrying a phone in my hand if I can help it when exploring somewhere new.

Have I missed a setting somewhere? I *do* get the course overview map before the start.

Thanks!

I don't think Watch 4 has Routes capability, however I have a hypothesis but I can't test it out until the weekend. I will report back!

Right, I have a solution - basically when you import it into your phone you have to tell it what sort of exercise it is - you need to input it as either a hike or a cycle - no idea why you can't put it in as walking, also means you don't get steps stats, which is annoying. Might be something you can modify in settings.

Another tip is make sure your start and end points don't overlap as it seems to confuse the watch - if you're doing a loop advise having start and finish 50m apart.

Hope these help!

I have exactly the same problem. It doesn't matter whether I import the route as hiking, walking or running.
Also tried to enter multiple routes. When you start, the normal exercises screen appears and no map to see how the route goes.

same here ….the map should pop up when you slide to the left ? not sure , instead media player shows up, the map appears only when is loaded first time from the phone.

But, you can access it from the multi-workouts tile, strange but is working ….good luck

This indeed seems to be the solution. Start the run by navigating to run, set the route as target. Then it'll show the same running stats, but in this case swiping up will show the map as well.

And what someone else mentioned: don't have the start and end point too close.
