@Rusty5010 As you can see from the article @Pugs1957 posted the tags have a long battery life, the battery is replaceable. Apple have recently launched a similar product, the Smart Tags have the added advantage of Smart Home functions and a wider range even the Air Tags are more weather resistant and offer greater customisation. The Smart Tags are also more robust. The Smart Tags will only work with UWB-enabled Samsung Galaxy smartphones, whilst Apple's product only works with ios. https://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-smarttag-vs-apple-airtag-which-does-more-your-phone
I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

In the devices that I've mentioned, you download their app, pair the tag(s) to your phone (both use bluetooth), then after that you will get separation alerts.
Let's imagine that you attach your car keys to a tag - when your phone and your tag no longer 'see' each other, your phone will ring, and show the last-known location on a map. Likewise, if you 'lose' your phone somewhere close by, you can press a little button on the tag, and it makes your phone ring.
TRACKR allows the owner to replace the battery.
TILE is a sealed unit - you cannot replace the battery, although you can exchange the expired tag for a new one, at a discount.
Like I said, I'm not certain of the specifics of the Samsung Smart Tag, but the principles are pretty-much the same.
