Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 overheating issue

Hello everyone,

I was happy when I finally received delivery of my new Galaxy Watch 5 Pro LTE but now it is going back, just like the Watch 4 did.

It seems Samsung has still not fixed the overheating issue ( see also https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/wearables/samsung-watch-4-lte-overheating-issues/td-p/4576408 ).

I have been able to easily recreate the issue. Simply stream a new podcast via Spotify (new, because if it is buffered or downloaded, the mobile connection is not used and power isn't ramped up) and go to an area with very poor reception. Instead of pausing the playback or simply accepting the poor reception, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro LTE, just like the 4 LTE overheats and then goes into forced cool down, i.e. you loose all functionality.

I do not know why Samsung is having so much trouble fixing this. The solution seems so simple. Imagine your mobile phone went into a forced cool down everytime you had poor cell service.

Anyway, please test it and report it. Samsung does not seem to care, but well, all we can do is warn other users.

Cheers

Alex

I also sent my Watch 4 LTE back because of this, and I'm thinking about sending my Watch 5 Pro LTE back.

Samsung doesn't care.

Having the same problem. As soon as I go LTE only and have a poor signal it always overheats. Totally pointless as I always have poor signal in the gym. Please samsung there's got to be a software update for this.

Well that's me not getting the watch 5 after finding out it has inherited the overheating problem it's predecessor has.

Hej,

I have the Galaxy Watch 5 and i cann tell you my experiences in terms of overheating:

Messages/SMS via LTE no problem, Phone Calls with Bluetooth connected to phone no Problem, Calls with LTE indoor (there no singal in my flat, 1-2 bar vodafon) 7-15 min until overheating. If the Watch is still hot from last call its goes down 3-5 min until overheating.  What helps is loose the bracelet a bit for air. The clock is not made for long Phonecalls with low signal :S

Outside i had no Problems, did calls 20-25 min.

I use the clock with auto LTE/Blueooth on, Wifi auto, LTE on, Tracking Samsung Healt, Pulse  and Remote-Connection for MEssages the hole day. Standalone maybe 2-3 hours a day automatically.

At Home i use Bluetooth, at work LTE with good signal. Outside LTE or Bluetooth (depend where the phone is). I really like the Watch and for me its ok, but really bad solved from samsung with this gsm Modul.

Thats my experience until now. Greets

Come on mate use a bit of critical thinking here. Firstly that video is about the watch 4. 6 months old. The issue being years old.  The comments in that video are of tons of people suffering over heating issues regardless of the videos information.

On top of that this is a brand new to market "PRO" device which rivals apple in price and on day one the watch has the exact same issue as the watch 4 has. After the most recent update mine started over heating while it was doing nothing... just sitting on the desk no apps open. Cycling through over heat messages.

Ludicrous that they can sell such a broke product to the market and charge this much.

Can only hope the google watch fixes these issues. If not it is probably a wear os related issue. Not the watch itself.

The most common reasons for a device becoming hot are: Your device is charging. Your device is running a power-intensive app. Your device is being used in a case or cover.

None of those were the case.  The device was not charging nor was it running any intensive app. It had no other apps on it other than the stock apps. Also, it was not in a case.  I almost switched over to the iPhone just so I can get a watch that works.

Every single one of us who has endured these deal breaking problems should file a lengthy and detailed report to the Better Business Bureau. Samsung's technical incompetence and refusal to conduct good customer service combined with a lack of transparency is enough to warrant the report. Maybe after enough complaints they'll do something right for their customers!
