Galaxy watch steps on walking activity

Hi, hopefully I am missing something but when I choose an activity such as 'Walk' on galaxy watch it doesnt actually report on steps taken in watch or Samsung Health? Seems bizzare to me, is this normal?

Just purchased watch 7/15/19 so Iam guessing that recording steps during walking activity is not going to happen. This is a deal breaker for me so it will be returned and I will go back to using Fitbit Iconic.
