So I received my Xbox Series X today, connected it to HDMI 4 using the bundled HDMI 2.1 cable and everything was fine until...I tried to play a game. Settings on the console were 4K, 120hz with HDR10 on auto and VRR enabled. As soon as I start a game my Q80T (55 inch) disconnects from the Xbox and shows a no signal error. From here I can press the Xbox button on the controller and switch apps and then I get significant screen tearing and flickering in menus.
As soon as I disable VRR on the Xbox it works fine. Hoping someone else has tested this with other cables or can offer solutions.
This guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8-6DmN9Gw4&feature=youtu.be was able to demonstrate that 4K 120hz with Freesync was possible on PC, so I'm hoping an update to TV or Xbox firmware will sort it out.
Edit: as Kyljaiden pointed out, some regions have version 1403 firmware. To clarify, I'm in Australia and we do not have that firmware update as yet and are stuck on 1402. Need to wait for confirmation from another user that 1403 replicates the 120hz VRR issues.
Edit2: Daparky shared this link https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/xba_console/known-issues-on-xbox-series-xs/221c9d7f-d... confirming that Microsoft are aware of the issues.
Edit3: SOLVED - a number of users have reported that 1403 firmware fixes the issue I've detailed. Unfortunately some regions do not have access to this firmware yet and will simply need to wait until Samsung push out the updates locally.

I live in Italy, my 55q80t has no purple ghosting problems with gmp on, I tested it with ps4 pro (tlou2, tomb Raider) and with one x (odissey) I bought it in November ... It also has no nenache the dimming bug a game mode, was I lucky?

The problem seems to be appearing while playing in 120 fps and vrr enabled. Ps4 pro does not support that

Not all sets are having issues for some reason, Samsung should repair the damaged sets, are they doing that currently?

Samsung Q80T - version 1403 same issue
4K60HZ VRR - FINE
4K120HZ NO VRR - FINE
4K 120HZ AND VRR - Intermittent black screen, usually every 1-2 min for a few seconds.
Cable used, the one supplied with xbox series x in box.

You should return the tv for another. That shouldn’t be happening.
Samsung TVs like to turn game mode on and off a few times when screens change in game sometimes....I’ve noticed this on multiple Samsung TVs....however it seems to happen only when you quit a game and go to the console home page. Not something happening in game....

Hi, i have this problem with Series S and TV Samsung Q70T, every 1 or 2 minutes the screen blinks for 3 seconds in black. I had tried changing game mode on tv and settings on Xbox, but nothing changed. Any solutions?

Have you set game mode to ON, not Auto?

My game mode is set too Auto, I have not tried "ON" only yet, I will try now and see if any improvement.
I was going to return the set only to find out its a common problem with XBOX series X and on a number of various TVs.

Hi, im considering getting this TV (Q80T 55)
Ive already an 43"4k TV but with no vrr, I'm really interested to see how well vrr works could someone with this TV give me some impressions on how dirt 5 runs on the series x? Like does the vrr hide all the frame stutters and tears?and do you notice a difference with vrr on and off? As on my TV the stutters are quite distracting.
Thank you

I have the Q80T 55" and can honestly say that Dirt 5 on the Xbox Series X runs great with VRR on, I have not witnessed any screen tearing or stutters. I have not tried it with VRR off.
There a a few people on this post that have experienced other issues with these TV's but I haven't had any problems other than the 120Hz mode with VRR On not working with Xbox Series X at launch, since then there has been TV firmware updates which fixed that issue.
If you do get the TV, just make sure to check for firmware updates, the current Firmware version is 1461
Hope this helped
