So I received my Xbox Series X today, connected it to HDMI 4 using the bundled HDMI 2.1 cable and everything was fine until...I tried to play a game. Settings on the console were 4K, 120hz with HDR10 on auto and VRR enabled. As soon as I start a game my Q80T (55 inch) disconnects from the Xbox and shows a no signal error. From here I can press the Xbox button on the controller and switch apps and then I get significant screen tearing and flickering in menus.
As soon as I disable VRR on the Xbox it works fine. Hoping someone else has tested this with other cables or can offer solutions.
This guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8-6DmN9Gw4&feature=youtu.be was able to demonstrate that 4K 120hz with Freesync was possible on PC, so I'm hoping an update to TV or Xbox firmware will sort it out.
Edit: as Kyljaiden pointed out, some regions have version 1403 firmware. To clarify, I'm in Australia and we do not have that firmware update as yet and are stuck on 1402. Need to wait for confirmation from another user that 1403 replicates the 120hz VRR issues.
Edit2: Daparky shared this link https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/xba_console/known-issues-on-xbox-series-xs/221c9d7f-d... confirming that Microsoft are aware of the issues.
Edit3: SOLVED - a number of users have reported that 1403 firmware fixes the issue I've detailed. Unfortunately some regions do not have access to this firmware yet and will simply need to wait until Samsung push out the updates locally.

I have a Q80T with upgraded firmware 1403 but I still have the issue with one of my games where the screen will flicker black for a second or two. This keeps happening during gameplay.

I'll download that game and test if I have same issue and get back to you as soon as I can.

I have the same issue with my 55Q80T.
SW: 1403.1
4K 120HZ VRR
It is clearly to see when I start Call of Duty Warzone and the Blue "Connecting to Xbox Live" Screen comes but also ingame and in other games.
I also found out that it is always when the FPS/HZ are not constant.

Can anyone post a link to a video on what they are experiencing, because I have the 55 Q80T and since 1403.1 have had no issues. I would like to see if your issues are the same as I had before firmware update

hi,
I have the same. The strange thing however is that it differs per game. I have a 65Q90T with the Series X running on 4K/120hz with VRR. It works perfectly on Rocket League, but when I start Destiny 2 it stats flickering. The screen shows black, shows the game again, shows the black screen again etc. Eventually it does also show the no signal screen. When I move change to 60hz then it seems fine again. Also running on 1403.1 firmware version.
So it is a different response per game it seems. I really want to have the 120hz experience though..
Anyone have an idea?

I have a UK Q95T running on firmware 1403 and I still get black screen and then loss of signal, when I start a game in 120hz 4K HDR VRR, if I turn my xbox off and back on, the game picture shows up and it runs fine. Not sure what is happening. Using the HDMI cable that came with the Series X.

Copying my post from the other thread, but figured I'd put in here as well in case anyone knows a solution:
So apparently the 6 minute dimming bug is back in non-game modes now? WTF...
I use standard mode and avoid game mode on my Series X due to the vertical scan lines, but now I don't know what's worse with the dimming.
Easy for anyone to replicate by going into the HDR Calibration app and looking at the brightness checkerboard pattern. After about 6 minutes, boom, dimmed! The crazy thing though is that you don't have to mess with local dimming settings to revert it, just hit the guide button!
Samsung needs to get this sorted out...
