Slow internet speed on my Q9

I have a 2018 Q9 that is only pulling 38 Mb off my 1 Gb home network. My provider is Verizon and I have their 1 Gb fiber router. Most of devices are pulling 200+ Mb/s. Why is this TV pulling so low. I have a laptop right next to the TV and it's pulling 450 Mb/s. I don't know why the TV is so slow. And this was at the 5 GHz frequency. It dropped to 10 Mb/s when I connected to the 2.4 GHz!!!!

Having recently purchased a 2019 model (UE49RU7300) and undertaken a whole load of tests on my 1Gb broadband network - like yours, it is disappointing to see that Samsung networking hardware (both wifi and ethernet) is 15-20 years out of date. The maximum you can possibly get from an ethernet connection will be 90-95mbps and not much more from wifi - even with an access point right next to it.  In order to get 90Mbps streaming, I recommend a couple of AV600 powerline extenders (around £30 on Amazon) and a couple of cat5e patch cables (£5).  In my experience, the powerline networking solution is more stable than wifi in that it will consistently provide throughout of around 90Mbps. Wifi can be a bit hit and miss in terms of keeping connections going at the highest possible rate, as I'm sure you will have experienced! I suspect that the TVs that Samsung are selling today will be obsolete in 4 years' time unless they fix this issue somehow.

Thanks for the update, Frank. I agree that it's too bad that Samsung does not invest more in its networking capabilities, especially given the state of our cultures and tech needs.

I will certainly take a look at the extenders and patch cables in hopes of pulling some better throughput.

Good plan, Rick.  By the way, I've used TP Link and BT AV600 adapters at home are they are fine and fully interoperate. They even come with patch cables, from memory. Whilst the ethernet ports on these AV600 adapters are Fast Ethernet (100Mbps), of course the throughput from the Samsung is the same standard so you won't gain anything by going for AV1000 adapters with Gigabit ports as far as TV connection is concerned. The price differential is in the order of £10 - £20 for the TP Link AV1000 / Gigabit Powerline starter set on Amazon which is a bit more future-proof and will provide backbone speeds from your router directly to the mains at around 500-700Mbps.  Useful if you decide to connect other high-speed kit to your home network. Whatever you decide, should you find that the throughput to the TV is around 65Mbps using the cables supplied with the adapters, then - in my experience at least - upgrading to higher quality (e.g Cat5e or Cat6) increases the speed to around 90Mbps.

For what it's worth, I pinged Samsung on support "chat" and suggested that they address this shortcoming over the next year or so - it's a bit mad that both networking technologies are so out of date - if they even fixed one, that would be quite significant. I'd be quite annoyed if I'd spent over £1k on a new TV. Fortunately it was under £400 in my case 😉
