Samsung 2021/22 TU9010 Smart TV won't play AAC/M4A audio files

I see in the manual that the TU9010 UHD TV supports M4A files. With all audio and video devices connected to my network and TV connected to Onkyo AVR via HDMI with CEC, I can navigate on the TV to any DLNA media server on my network (e.g., hosted by Windows or just a USB drive connected to a router) and play MP3 files over the Onkyo AVR. That works great 100% of the time.

However, a large portion of my ripped music from CDs is 256kbps AAC, which won't play at all. The files appear when I browse on the TV, but they won't play, either showing unsupported format or just returning to the file list page. These files play just fine on every other device I have, including phones, computers, and even if navigating through the much less friendly Onkyo UI. M4A container for AAC files also happen to be the default ripping format for the new Windows Media Player, so this is a major standard with a real push to have this replace MP3 for the smaller size and higher quality.

I have checked for updates via the Settings options on the TV. It says the TV firmware is up to date.

Any ideas why the Samsung TV that's only 2-3 years old won't play AAC files? This is not a new format and it's a major standard for music (albeit not as popular as MP3, but that's a lower quality format) with the standard recommendation that a 256kpbs AAC is comparable to a 320kbps MP3 in terms of quality.

This is frustrating. The files play on literally all other devices I have except the Samsung TV, but the Samsung TV is the one I most want to use to navigate and play from the DLNA server. Will my only option be to convert everything to MP3?

Hi @GraniteStateColin  As far as I am aware the AAC format should be supported  but if cannot be resolved may need to convert.  https://developer.samsung.com/smarttv/develop/specifications/media-specifications/2024-tv-video-spec...
