I got this new TV at the end of November, set it up then went out the country for a couple of weeks. When I came back, that’s when I started using it and found after a couple of days, bright patches in the darker images in various locations.

After requesting assistance a couple of weeks ago through the tv support, I have had no response. So I’ve contacted Samsung today for warranty issue. They’ve said they’ll contact me in a couple of days to send an engineer out to repair it.

my questions are:

What causes these patches and is this really fixable at home?

I’d imagine the tv has to be opened up, surely they won’t do this in my living room???

Hi, sorry I can't tell you the cause but the engineer should throw some light in it for you (no pun intended!).
Not sure why you are concerned about opening up the TV, these devices are clean. It's not like having a motorbike dismantled in your lounge where oil, grease, fuel etc could damage furnishings.
You will be fine. Hope you get back to normal viewing, soon.

Not thinking if it’ll be dirty, just thinking the size of it and if it has to be split open. It’ll take some space

I'm only guessing but I would imagine they will have some sort of frame to do this without a need for too much space. It would be interesting to learn how they dealt with the task.

So after a week, no one called to arrange a visit. Now according to Samsung customer support on web chat, this is normal. The 2 pictures of the screen test don’t show this up as the screen is bright, but this is what it looks like when it’s a dark image
