Audio output keeps switching to TV Speakers

I've just bought a UE43AU8000, and I'm having an issue with the audio setup. It's connected to a Sony DAV-DZ260 DVD Home Theater System via HDMI (on the ARC port) and Optical.

The main issue is that when you switch the audio output on the TV from 'TV Speakers' to 'Receiver (HDMI)', it will switch back to 'TV Speakers' in a few seconds. In the few seconds it is outputting to 'Receiver (HDMI)' everything is working perfectly, audio is being outputted over the optical cable, and volume control is going over HDMI. Switching it to 'Optical' output does stick, but obviously I lose volume control.

Now I realise that the receiver is pretty old now, and doesn't support ARC or eARC, but the TV is capable of doing exactly what I want, it just won't stay there.

Does anyone know how to fix this, and get it to stay on the 'Receiver (HDMI)' output setting?

I created this thread that is not marked solved for the same issue.

Thanks buddy, this is a solid work around.  Well done Fig_wright!

I am in New Zealand and just purchased a QN90A 55 inch tv, its a lovely TV. It has replaced my 6 year old Panasonic, so a big jump up in image quality and features.

Unfortunately I have the  same issue of defaulting to TV speakers and not my Yamaha AV amp each time I turn the unit on.  Hard to believe a brand new TV has this issue.  My 5 year old Panasonic TV had no issue with my AV amp.

I have been in touch with Samsung support today, they said they will escalate this issue to their senior technicians.  If I get any response will update here.  I added this blog for them to see what others are saying.

Hopefully this will give it some attention.  It is a software bug and just needs to be addressed by their software development team.

Until then the workaround from Fig_wright will have to do!

After messing around myself, trying different settings, and also talking to Samsung support, who basically never got back to me, I was pretty much over it.  So ended up taking the Samsung TV back to the store and swapped it for a Panasonic JZ-2000 55inch OLED.  This TV is sold in New Zealand but not Australia or the US, that is quite strange.

Here is the crazy thing, I plugged in my Yamaha Amp, turned the TV on, and the sound worked straight away (without changing any settings).  The Panasonic is not as bright as the Samsung, but it is bright enough, and the image is really good.  I mean really good.  Set up was just as simple as the Samsung, the user interface is actually better I feel also.  No messing around with lots of double layer menus.

Make of this what you will.  Very happy with the Panasonic.  Everything works out of the box with no messing around, great picture, all the features you need (including support for Dolby Vison and Dolby Atmos) and easy set up.  The TV is also reviewed very well, just check on line for the reviews.

It is a shame that I had to return the Samsung TV as it is a really good TV, but the audio issue was just too frustrating to put up with (the Family was starting to revolt!).

Brand new Samsung QN85 85" Neo QLED TV just installed and I'm having the same issue.  There seems to be no resolution to this.  Not using eARC is really undesirable, and turning off HDMI-CEC makes it so the TV doesn't even see my receiver.  I have all brand new gear, but this is bs. Where's the fix Samsung?

I have the exact same issue, exact same components.  (brand new) Q90A with a (brand new) RX-A2A Yamaha receiver.  When I first hooked the new receiver up with my 9 year old Panasonic TV, no problems.  When I put in the Samsung, all sorts of problems with the communication with the receiver.  At first, got "no signal" messages when I tried to run the Firestick plugged into the receiver.  I replaced my cat6 balun, and finally got a video...and now the TV constantly flips to the TV speakers.  Also, every time I play music on the receiver, it completely messes up the communication and I have to unplug everything to even get video from the receiver to the TV.  Sounds like the solution is to get a different TV.

Good question.  Reading the forums you can see this is a known bug that has been there for sometime.  I have no idea why such a critical bug has not been sorted out.

It would seem so, the only real solution is to swap the tv with something else.   Same for me my Yamaha amp was fine with the old Panasonic tv.  With the Samsung ,as I have said, it was a nightmare to sort out the sound via my amp.

I am really pleased with the new Panasonic JZ 2000.  Been watching a few HDR movies and it’s very impressive.  No issues with connecting to my Yamaha RX-v677 which from memory is about 5 or 6 years old.

My advice, just return the Samsung tv and get something else.  In New Zealand Panasonic TVs are priced well, cheaper than the UK, normally it’s the other way around. If not available where you are, you can alway’s look at the others like LG, Sony etc.  it’s probably the only way Samsung will listen, if people start returning their panels.

I am the last person to complain and I felt really bad taking the Samsung back to the store.  It really was the only choice and very happy now with my setup.  Shout out to Harvey Norman in Mt Wellington!

Thanks for the info, CoffeeMachine.  A return will be a hassle, since it's a 75" TV and I had to pay Best Buy to mount it on the wall.  But a return may be the best solution.  I'd hate to wait past the return window trying to solve this, especially if Samsung has been unresponsive to others.  Unfortunately, Panasonic doesn't exist in the US anymore, but hopefully other brands don't have these same issues.  I'll give Samsung another day or two, then execute the return.

I recently bought QN95A + Q960A soundbar + surround. Have been struggling for weeks. After choosing the soundbar it goes back to default tv speakers after a few seconds. Connected through the eArc port.
both Samsung products. Can’t believe how this isn’t plug and play. I also have Sonos on another TV, that was so much easier to set up… but.. I think I found a fix just now. Been working for the last 15 minutes at least

my tv is set on Norwegians, so my translation may not be 100%. Settings - general- manage external units - in signal plus (?) - marked my HDMI3 port (the eArc). Now it works.  The setting “expands the in signal area for hdmi connections”. Whatever that means. Hope this solves the issue for someone else. This sure was a pain in the a**. I can’t believe that buying a top of the line Samsung tv and soundbar isn’t plug and play. Shame on you Samsung, this is really really bad
