Unable to show factory reset screen

Hi,

Our son changed the login pattern for his tablet and can’t remember the new pattern.

As a result, we can no longer log in to the tablet. I’ve tried accessing the factory reset screen using the power and volume buttons, but it’s not working.

When I hold both buttons, the tablet keeps restarting. If I release one or both buttons after the tablet shows the startup screen (Samsung logo) again, it always takes me back to the login screen for the pattern.

What am I doing wrong? My son is fine with a full factory reset of the tablet, but I can't seem to get it to work.

The tablet is a Galaxy Tab A9 Plus, purchased in late 2024.

Best regards,
Maarten

I know for a few deviices they changed it. You have to firstly plug it into a PC for it to work- but since your son can do it I'll link a video

@johnz237

Thanks, I tried doing that and that did indeed help.

  1. Connected the tablet to my laptop using USBc
  2. Pushed and held power & volume up button
  3. When the display went dark, kept holding the power but switched from volume up to volume down
  4. When the samsung logo showed, released both buttons

For others reading this, connecting a usb-c to a laptop works.

You can also connect. Usb-c to another compatible mobile device that supports usb-c as well (not everyone has a pc or laptop). 🙏
I am not employed by Samsung nor do I receive any remuneration as a Samsung Members Star.

My device is an S25 Ultra.

Could you please answer a question for me?
I am struggling with a Galaxy Tab A9+ SM-X210 tablet and during a system update the tablet crashed. It will not show the charging logo when plugged in (I've troubleshooted everything I can changed wires outlets, everything). I have tried multiple factory resets, I even tried this one (using the computer). It will not show the reset menu. It won't do anything. I have no idea how to go about fixing this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! TIA!
