Might have an issue with my new Tab S9 Ultra and am wondering if this behaviour is normal.

I got the tablet last week, charged it to full using the official 45W Samsung Charger and 5A cable (this charges my S23 Ultra at Super Fast Charger 2.0 speed) before setting up. I've only charged it three time so far but I've noticed that when charging it, it reaches 100% incredibly quickly, when I went to reboot it though, the battery percentage drops massively.

Just charged it from 5%, got to 100% in 45 minutes which is impossibly quick so I rebooted it and it was at 54%. Is this normal? It did this before where I charged it again to the 'true' 100% after rebooting and the battery got me 3 days+ of use with 8hours SOT in that so the battery life is definitely OK, just wondering about the reporting of the battery charge level of that makes sense?

This is what it looks like, there's the massive drop upon reboot Screenshot_20230814_161446_Device care.jpgScreenshot_20230814_161442_Device care.jpg

Why the need to keep rebooting it, if like you say it charges up to the full 100% mark?

It's more that it's not normal behaviour. It shouldn't go 5% to reporting 100% in 45 minutes. The reboot was to see what the battery is actually at if that makes sense?

How many times has this happened? If its just the once then it could be a one of bug if this happens again then it's possible you could have a faulty battery in which case contact samsung for a replacement or just return and reorder

I am seeing the same issue with my tab s9 ultra. it charged to 90% in 45 mins on a 25W charger. Restarted and now it shows 52% charged.

Just had this thing happening to me twice on S9 Ultra 1tb. Charges very quickly and then it drops very quickly without using it. I can literally look at the percentage and see it dropping by itself minute by minute without using the tablet.

I assume it would then stabilise and start to drain normally once it got to the true charge percentage near 50%. It definitely looks like a software problem and not hardware I think as once I get it to the true 100% after rebooting, I got three days of use of out of it.

Glad to see it's not just me though.

Hi guys,

I asked about this at the Samsung side, and have been advised that an upcoming software update should resolve the strange battery charge level reporting. Not much info on the exact version or when, but keep a look out for any software updates coming in the near future, and let us know in this thread if it fixes it or not.

Thank you :). I'll be sure to post an update if this gets resolved by a SW update
