I have changed sd card on my tablet and it is mounted and shows in my files. When I open gallery the old files show even though the card isn't in the tablet. I can access new card through my files and if I pick a picture it will show in gallery. How can tablet show pictures not in machine.

Hi, @tockyy. Is it possible that your Gallery pictures are synced from your Tab S3 to OneDrive or another Cloud service? Our friends from Samsung US have created a helpful guide about this:

To get to the bottom of this, you should be able to see where the pictures that were on your old SD card are currently residing (in terms of how the Gallery app is accessing and displaying them). 

Please open each picture, click on the picture, and then click the three dots that appear on the bottom-right of the app > Details > look at the storage information/file path.

I expect that you will now have more clarity about where the pictures are currently stored.

Thanks for replying.
According to the pictures they are in the sd card that is not in the tablet. Not on any cloud . I will continue to investigate but how pictures can on a device when the dource is not connected is baffling.

Incidentally I have added my music to the new sd card and that plays ok on my music app. Still canmot find where the old pictures are coming from.
