So: I have a Tab A (2016) SM-T580.
Running Android 8.1 and Samsung Experience 9.5. Android security patch level 1 April 2020 (latest available).
I've had this since 2017, and it's been fine all that time.
One of the apps I have is the Collins Bird guide app - I've had it for years. Since it's quite heavy on storage, I've always moved it onto the SD card to minimise impact on internal storage.
After the last Play store update of this app, when I went to move it to the SD card, the "move" got to 60%, then failed with the pop-up message "Not enough storage".
The SD card has about 13GB free, and the internal storage has 4.1GB free - so no obvious reason for the problem.
In order to try and sort this, I have:
- Removed the SD card, run Checkdisk on the PC (all showed fine), backed up my own files to the PC.
- Done a factory reset on the tablet
- Full format on the SD card, copied my own files back on.
- Re-installed Bird Guide app (no other apps added at this stage
- Tried to move it to the SD card - and got the same result.
The card is a genuine SanDisc card - it shows as OK on the PC and works fine for everything else, so I can see no reason why it should cause a problem now!
I've reinstalled most of the apps I had before (there were a few I haven't used for a while). I've been able to transfer some of them to the SD card with no issue.
Any suggestions as to why Bird Guide should be problematic would be appreciated!
Edit: Just to add: I have the same app on my Samsung A40 phone - same size SD card, but bigger internal storage. The move of the app to SD card worked fine on that today!
Cheers,
Tony

Just to close this out:
I contacted the app developer, who was kind enough to respond quickly.
It seems that, to manipulate the transfer, the device needs something like 2.5 times the actual size of the app - which is a little more than was available, even after the reset. There's probably little that can be done - the original apps on the device, generally can't be uninstalled to free storage, and I don't intend to spend much more time fighting to achieve the move.
It all works - so I'll live with it.
No need for further discussion, I think.
All the best,
Tony.
