Bought tabS85g great device so bought one for my wife first time she used it the nib fell out of the s-pen. Samsung offered repair but want new one cos I paid £800 for the tab. They insist I send it for repair butI bought acnew one not a repaired one and I dont want tomsend her tab by courier god knows where with all her personal stuff on it theres no need. I'll happily send the pen but I wont risk the tab to a courier and have it back damaged and then have problems for a year trying to get it replaced all for a plastic pen yhat must cost Sam all of £5. Ive given them a week to replace it then its small claims! They think I wont but they obviously don't know me. I expect this will be taken down so pass it round quick!😉

Why would they want the tablet back if its just the pen nib that's fallen out?

Regarding you wanting something new, that would depend if your still within the returns window if you get a new or repaired item, this is not unique to Samsung.
