I have a samsung j3 (2017). I want to clear android cache. I turn off the phone (hard turn off)

I then do power on + volume up together, till logo appears (galaxy title)

then release, wait a few seconds till the name samsung appears, ....  but then nothing happens, screen goes dark

should it not then be in recovery mode, and U choose 'wipe cache partition' using the power button to scroll down?

why doesn't the choice dropdown list appear on the screen?

Hi @andrbea, and welcome to the Samsung Community forum. 😀

To clear your phone's cache partition, you may need to connect your phone to a computer using your USB charging cable. Once you've done this, follow the usual steps, which I've listed below, and you shouldn't have any further issues.

> Turn your phone off.
> Hold down the Volume up and Power buttons on your phone at the same time. Keep holding the buttons until you see the Android logo.
> Using the Volume down button, scroll down to "wipe cache partition".
> Press the Power button to select this option.
> Use the Volume down button to scroll to "Yes".
> Press the Power button to confirm.
> Press the Power button to select "Reboot device".

Please let me know how you get on. 🙂

Thanks, did all that. With a USB charging cable in the PC while I worked. Went OK up till 'Keep holding the buttons until you see the Android logo.' After letting go (once galaxy logo had appeared) the word Samsung in next to appear, but after that a black screen, no dropdown list, that I can scroll down thru to find 'wipe cache partition'.

Thank you for getting back to me. So that we can say we have tried all possible solutions, please can you give it another try, but this time when the Samsung logo appears release just the Power button? Then, when the blue/black screen appears, release the Volume Up button.

I do all that, still doesn't work. I power down with the red icon. And feel it shudder. Then, after a wait, I restart it, holding the 2 buttons: vol up and power. When the single word samsung arrives, I release the power button, keeping vol up depressed. But then nothing happens for about 30s then it flips back out to the start screen, says sim card locked and I enter the verification code, and then get a normal open. The phone ran with a cable to the pc as instructed. So no list of actions showed up e.g. wipe ccache partition. This is a samsung galaxy j3 2017, perhaps the phone can't show these options?
