Hello 👋 @Newitt and may I personally extend a Warm Welcome to the Samsung Community Forum as a first poster.
My partner has also occasionally had this happen on her Samsung phone which just seems resolves itself. 🤔
I appreciate it can be annoying 😑
Maybe this is a network issue due to mast congestion, or mast issues 🤔
Try a forced reboot by holding down the volume down key and power button simultaneously for more than 7 seconds to restart it. When your phone resets, you will feel it vibrate.
You could if you wish also carry out these troubleshooting steps.
1. Long hold on the message app icon and tap on i , and then tap on Storage followed by Clear Cache.
2. Clear Cache Files from the phone's System Partition Section > https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-do-i-clear-the-cache-on-my-device/ You may need to insert your earphones or hook upto a powered On Laptop or use a Tv's USB Port to access the Clear Partition Section. This may help with lag or stutters as this clears the phone of old/unused or broken cache files.There is also a Repair Apps option in the Menu System too { Possibly excluding the s²⁴ Series of phone's }
3. Remove the sim card and gently wipe the chip and then reinsert.
4. Speak to your Networks Customer Support.
5. If you perform a forum search you may find existing threads with some further help or guidence within.
