Phone not recognised by Kies

About Samsung Galaxy J6

I'm trying to back up my files on my computer but I can't because my device is not recognised by Kies, or any other free transferring service. 

When I go into 'My Computer', my phone is not there under 'Devices and Drives', but I did manage to find it in 'Device Manager' under 'Disk Drives', named 'SAMSUNG MZYLN256HCHP-000L2'. What does this mean? I simply want to access my files. 

I have tried re-installing the drivers for the USB and for this disk drive and troubleshooting the connection in Samsung Kies. Any other help would be appreciated.

when you connect usb from your phone to your pc remember to unlock your phone to home screen before your pc can recognise your phone

kies is discontinued by Samsung, better to use Samsung Smart switch on pc to back up all your data from the j6
