How do I get bluetooth battery status to go on when devices are connected?

Any specific devices are you wanting to do this with?

For example, if a Bluetooth headset supports this feature, then on Samsung devices running Android 9/Pie, you should be able to check the headset battery status by Settings > Connections > Bluetooth > [check what it says under the relevant device name on the list].
