WiFi power saving mode?

What does WiFi power saving mode do and how does it save battery?

If I turn it on, will it mean periodically my WiFi will disconnect and hence I don't receive email/ WhatsApp notifications?

Some people online saying you can get big battery savings if you turn this setting on but it is not clear how this works and what it actually does?

I have it On no issues.

I believe it doesn't keep scanning for WiFi if say you are not at home etc.

I also switched hotspot off so it did doesn't keep scanning for WiFi hotspots.

I have 5g and enough mobile data so don't need it for my case senario.
