Wi-Fi Wrongly Displaying "Incorrect password"

Hi All.

Bit of a weird one, this.

My phone and an S22 Ultra which are both connected to the same WiFi network, and have both worked for over a year now, are beginning to say "Incorrect password" whenever I connect to the network.

Simply, this is surely because of a mistyped password? Well, it cannot be, as the password has not changed since I put it in, and since it has worked for a year, this has to be the nearest "cover up" message for a more major issue.

No other devices on the WiFi have this problem. There are three other Samsung devices (Note3, A5, S20 FE) and all have no problems. Not a problem with the WiFi itself.

Done the basic things - restarted the phone, removed all known WiFi networks, turned off intelligent features etc etc.

Issue still occurs.

At all costs possible, I would like to avoid performing a factory reset. It's a complicated process and will use up a weekend, which may lead to no fix.

Any advice?

Many thanks!

I had the same problem, firstly on my wife fold 5, then laptop but my fold 6 was fine. Tried deleting the network, clearing network settings on both f5 and laptop.

I then completely reset router to factory settings then changed ssid name and password to previous.

Same problem.

I then changed ssid to a different name, same password it connected on f5. Tried same on laptop, but failed.

What worked was changing both ssid AND password and everything now works.

I changed ssid and password back to original and still working for now. So this issue isn't just on the Samsung Galaxy, it effected my Surface Pro. I'm not certain, but the same happened on my Sky Puck which then bricked, new one tomorrow.

I woukd change ssid and password to something different and see what happens.

Good luck 🙏

Got new tablets, A9+, same issue with wrong password. This is what I had to do. Change Router setting, security to WPA3-Personal [SAE]. All fixed. You may have to sign back in, all devices, forget old SSID and sign back in.

This suggestion, AndrewL, forgetting the network and rejoining it, is not the answer. Everytime my A02s goes to sleep, it drops off the network. Checking Connections, Wi-Fi, next to my network, it says "Incorrect Password."

Even if I enter the password correctly, the gateway will continue to refuse to allow my A02s to join, several times, then for no discernable reason, it will connect.

However, farther down, a post by:

Found the issue. In the wifi settings,  turn off randomized mac address, and change to use phone mac.

actually outlined the correct issue.

When I turned off Randomized MAC to use Phone MAC, I also got a LOAD more of network throughput speed. WINNING!

When I first got my Samsung A54 in October 2023 I noticed this problem, along with other connectivity issues, but eventually it went away. Then in early June 2025 my phone updated to Android 15, and the "incorrect password" problem has returned. I've tried the switching away from the randomized MAC address, as recommended by Apokai (earlier in this thread) but since my problem is intermittent, it's hard to say whether that will work. With Android 15 came another new problem: when away from my WiFi spots, the phone will simply turn the WiFi off entirely. I think Samsung is having serious trouble controlling the most basic network connectivity functions of the phone.
