I was laying in bed about last night when I heard a loud bang and a huge spark. I looked over the see the plastic lid of my Samsung fast charger laying across the floor along with the cable. The adaptor had exploded and left a burnt smell in my room along with black residue on the outlet. It was incredibly scary and when looking up online 1 realised I wasn't alone, the impact was so strong that our electricity went out for a couple of minutes. I'm now scared to charge my phone and don't know what to do. Would this have damaged my device as well?

I doubt it would damage the phone.
Things like this need to be investigated, as it's a safety case.
If your in the UK, please contact @Sam_UK by direct message from your profile, with all the details and they can escalate this.
Obviously stop using the charger and lead.
If you have access to another then use the alternative.

Thank you for your reply, I've messaged them and hope they reply soon. I'll have to buy a new charger though.

if it popped any GFCI system it could be that live was somehow connected to ground

If it's an RCD that popped then electricity went somewhere it shouldn't, which can blow stuff up.

Okay so I googled both if them and my outlet is an RCD. So is it an issue with the outlet or the charger itself? There was black residue around the outlet as well

Take it your fuse box doesn't have RCD breaker fuses. If not, then plug into an rcd breaker switch socket to protect your devices. You're lucky it didn't fry the phone or worse cause a fire.
