Indeed, the situation is beyond desperate (((((
That's a shame I haven't noticed it in the first place to be able to match it with the exact update number that has impacted on camera focus.
My current failed focus primary camera module photos rate is about 2 failed out of 5 😞
I can't believe that so few S20U users were impacted, so this problem is still not widely spread enough.
Adding a few more photos:Quick snap with no focus
And the next one after realized there was no focus

Totally agree! x0.5 and x4 camera modules are totally fine (so far! 😅😶)
And it took me time to realize there was a fault in the primary camera module focus process. When it's in not_focusing mode, it means the focus does not go further than 1-2m away! Everything that's near the focus easily snaps on. But if you want to capture some scenery, you notice that immediately by looking at such a resulting picture. And that's usually long after that moment is gone 😫

Indeed 😭. The factory reset on a daily-driver phone (without any guarantee that it would fix) is equal to buying a new one. I can't even think of it as a possible solution option. So at this point, there's a reasonable question why Samsung... What if the S22 ultra would have the same "support"?
I really am looking at another Apple ecosystem, as my wife has been happily using it for over six years. Even the oldest iPhone 7 from 09.2016 is still receiving updates and is being supported!

Well, here in Ukraine, the prices are equal for both Samsung and iPhone flagman phones (S22U & 14 pro max). It's a matter of preference - Android or IOS. I like both almost equally but am just used to Android. Been through Galaxy S1, Captivate, Infuse, S3, S4, S10L, and S20U, not to mention lots of other Samsung devices... And I've selected the S20U specifically and intentionally for the best camera modules at the time. And having a major deal-breaker feature not working properly is, by all means, unacceptable and frustrating 😠
I do really hope for current issue visibility so that the support/dev team would escalate it and release a patch in the upcoming update.

Same problem after software update. Primary camera doesn't focus. Isn't a hardware issue. Changing from photo to video (or portrait) and backwards fixes the focus for this session. Also no fix works, like clear cache, safe mode etc. It's just a software bug that Samsung should have already fixed.

Sorry to hear that 😞
Just for your information. I've updated recently with another update from the 1st of October 2022; alas, nothing has changed related to the S20 Ultra camera focusing issue 😢

Keeping this topic alive.
Still experiencing the focus issue.
I almost used to "tap" my premium Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra flagman phone everytime before taking a picture.
That's beyond frustrating 😭😡
