Heyo, firstly want to say hopefully this category fits, kinda struggled finding what category talking about glass would go into. So I'll focus on the glass in the S series phones. Now I'll get started.

Glass is important for phones, really important. It's how you interact with the device and how the device interacts with you. Having it crack or break is devastating and expensive to fix. Over the years, it's been improved more and more with different methods. I wanted to talk about them here. Most phones use a form of hardened ot tempered glass.

Though as a wise man said, "Glass is glass, and glass breaks". Also since most phone manufacturers use a form of glass, they all have the same hardness level. So they have "scratches at a level 6 with deeper grooves at a level 7". (I'm talking about glass I couldn't help myself)

So, the s25u.
This phone uses the absolute latest glass tech. Gorilla glass armour 2. It's supposed to be the most scratch and crack resistant glass on a phone so far. Since this is the starting point I don't have anything to compare it to.

Official updates of this are better drop resistance from a ceramic coating and the amazing anti reflection layer. It can survive a 2.2m drop onto concrete.

The s25 and s25+.
These phones actually use a bit of an older glass called Gorilla glass victus 2. Still really good, but not as good as the ultra's glass. This is from 2022.
Comparing it to armour 2, this glass is more susceptible to micro scratches and has a drop rating of around 1m on concrete.

S24u.
These phones have gorilla glass armour 1. It was the first with a really good anti reflective coating and had amazing scratches resistance. The downside being it could crack and shatter easier. Armour 2 is easier to scratch compared to armour 1 but it is more durable to cracks and drops.

Direct comparisons are a little tricky but it will probably be more durable and resistant than victus 2. Though it does cost more

S24, s24+, the whole s23 series
These use victus 2 as well, same as the s25 base and plus.

S22 ultra.
These phones use victus 1+. I don't have too much info but it'll be a more expensive more resistant version of victus 1.

S22 and s22+.
These use thr first version of victus. This glass is from 2020 and seems to be very similar to victus 2 appart from being worse with some types of scratches.

There are older versions of glass but I can't do this forever.

Little extra, newer galaxy watches actually don't use glass, they use sapphire screens. These are much more durable and stronger than any form of glass, but are far easier to crack. They are also a lot more expensive as sapphire must be grown in a lab, then carefully cut.

While it's an aspect no one picks a phone over, the type of glass uses on your device really does matter, it decides how durable or easy to break your expensive screen is. Exact details for these glasses are a bit foggy and full of marketing so I tried to give as much solid detail as I could.

I have seen reports of the S25U having less scratch resistance compared to older models, but better crack resistance. A teardown video showed this when the phone first came out.

Curious if this was ever looked into properly. (I know I'm not doing it.😂)

Yeah, the s25u is more scratchable than the s24u. Though it has stronger crack resistance. A scratch is harder to notice and cause less issues than a crack does so armour 2 was tweaked a bit
