The ringtone on my Galaxy S20 keeps turning itself up to full volume, startlingly loud. I turn it down in the phone settings and in a day or two it rings at full volume. How do I set it and have it stay set where I put it?

I think we had an identical issue to yours in the forum.
If it's always automatically setting itself to maximum, it is either a bug, you need yo clear system cache partition, or if you have an app that has control over the volume, you need to change its settings.
The worst-case scenario is that you set a routine that brings back your ringing tone to the level you select every time you receive a call.

Sounds like a classic case of either rogue app control or a stuck system setting clearing the cache or checking automation routines might just do the trick. I've seen similar bugs on other forums too.
