I am not receiving a notification sound for text messages on my S21. I receive a notification sound for WhatsApp and emails but not texts.  Any thoughts please?

I had the same issue. Turns out there are two apps named "messages" one with a new icon, and one with the old icon with 3 dots in the middle.

I discovered this in Settings >Apps>Messages. My notifications were blocked on the new app. tap notifications, and change to allowed.

Hope this helps.

Yes, thank you. It seems to have changed on my phone as well.

I have done all of this.  Everything says sound on but I do not have any sound when a message comes in.  I am so frustrated.  Do not disturb in NOT on, volume on notifications is on the loudest.  When I try to hear what sound it is to make in settings nothing happens even when I change sounds, when I turn on notification vibrations with intensity set to highest nothing happens.  Are there any other idea's?

@justme3: Is it just the Messages app that is currently affected? Are you using the phone at the time the notification(s) come through, or is it locked/idle? Try restarting your device, then head to Settings > Notifications > App notifications, and make sure that 'Messages' is toggled on here. Now, tap the Back button > Lock screen notifications > Show content > Show content when unlocked (On) > Notifications to show > Alert and silent notifications > Show on Always On Display > On.

Now, head to Settings > Apps > Messages > Notifications > Allow notifications > On > Allow sound and vibration > On > Notification categories > New messages > Allow notifications > On > Alert (On) > Sound > Default notification sound (as an example) > Adjust the volume slider at the top of the screen.

Head back to Settings > Apps > Messages, then tap on 'Permissions' and make sure that Notifications are 'Allowed'.
