I did the latest update to my phone this morning, now I have a non-stop message coming up.  The message is: faster richer higher quality chat on wifi or data.

I know this is related to the enhanced chat and I've tried turning it off about 100 times. It will not go away! Even while typing this post it popped up!

Samsung,  please fix this. It is maddening!!!

I believe this worked!

  • Settings
  • Apps
  • Search for 'messages' (or scroll to it) and press Messages
  • Press 'Appear on top' (towards the bottom)
    • Remove the permission to set it to off

Thanks to ambo0 who mentioned it earlier.

Sadly this hasn't worked completely for me. I still get the pop up. It's very intermittent now. It still happens though . I've had the suggested solution in place shortly after it was posted.

Bexx,

How did you contact Google? I'd like to give that a try.

They are claiming they haven't gotten complaints so anyone who can contact would probably help them fix it

I'm not sure contacting Google would help.

The issue is with Samsung's messaging app not persisting the selection of 'Use without chat features'.

I called Samsung support yesterday and spent over 20 minutes with them on the phone. They are aware of the issue and told me they have no solution for this bug at this moment.

They also told me that if I had warranty I can send in my phone for them to address this bug manually (didn't go into specifics of how, I assume they would rollback the Messaging app). It is kind of ridiculous to expect a warranty for them to address their bug, particularly one that can be hazardous while driving.

Does it only happen when you open the Messaging app?

Or maybe I should ask first, do you use any other Messaging app besides the default one? Maybe should disable it on there too if you do.

I myself barely use any phone-level messaging app so that could be why it worked with me.

Otherwise, try also doing this:

  • Settings > Apps > Messaging > Change System Settings > Not Allowed

Got a similar message and I ready to throw the phone away. No way to DECLINE the offer. Totally unacceptable.

Unable to DECLINE the offer. Unacceptable. Got the same pop up and and hate it.
