Gallery photos disappeared

Hi, I'd be grateful if someone can help. I just updated my software and since all my gallery information has disappeared. I can see the storage for it has shifted to "system" but I can't open it. Tried clearing the cache but nothing on there. Please advise as I have lots of memories on there which I don't want to loose 😭😭 I'm using S21 ultra

Hi @epench  Have you searched in My Files as well as Google photos? Do you have syncronisation with One Drive set up or do you use any other service such as Dropbox? storage.html   Will be problematic without backups and I would recommend using both Cloud services and local storage.  Some information here https://www.findingtheuniverse.com/photo-backup/ 

However  that may be more of a  safeguard for the future.  If you cannot locate anywhere you might be able to recover using Data Recovery software but no guarantee.  I cannot recommend any one myself  as have not needed this option but you see some information here https://geekflare.com/android-data-recovery

No, it wasn't backed up. It's never happened before and I've been using Samsung for many years so never anticipated a software update will cause this.... the data is still on the phone somewhere but it seems it has shifted to "system" which I can't open on the phone.
