Can anyone tell me how to change the photo resolution on the Samsung Galaxy S20+?
I simply cannot find a way to do this! When I search for this I find lots of results showing how very easy it is to do, by just going into the camera, selecting the settings and then choosing a photo resolution. The problem is, whilst that option might've been there in the past, it's not there now! I just cannot find any way to select the resolution for photos I take (and I therefore can't control much space they'll use).
The settings must have changed with a software update, but where are they now? This sort of thing should be easy!

Okay. It seems Samsung did f*** us by not allowing changes to resolution. However you CAN go to camera/settings/format and hit HEIF pictures. That reduced my photo size by half, but it warns you that "some apps and sites don't support this format." You can read about HEIF here: https://www.howtogeek.com/345314/what-is-the-heif-or-heic-image-format/
I'd be interested in knowing any issues with this method. Apologies if someone already suggested this

Yes, it saves space but you have to convert all your pics if your software does not like it.
HEIF i.e HEVC = better and smaller at the cost of slower processing on old hardware. Most modern Cpu/Gpu don't have this problem as they have hevc acceleration.

Thank you Humpty. That is very helpful. I experimented and found that I was able to send the HEIC format photo from my photo gallery via a phone message (to a Samsung S20 FE) and via email (via Yahoo mail that has been set up as the default Samsung email to both a Yahoo mailbox and an old Outlook mailbox) . Interestingly, in both cases the photo was reformatted to a .JPG on arrival and in the case of the message, it was reduced in size to about 1/2 or 1/4 the original. So, so far HEIC is working for me.
I also discovered that you can reduce the size of individual photos in your camera or gallery. Click on the photo to open it; go to the edit button at bottom (a pencil) and click the three dots (and an N) in the top right corner. It gives you options to reduce the size. Save and then you get the option to replace the old photo with the smaller one or have a second smaller one. Maybe everyone but me already knew that. It doesn't help with storage size of course, because you hardly want to have to resize each photo. But it may help in sharing the photo.
Lastly I noticed someone else on this forum (a different question) pointed out that as long as you have set up the Samsung email app to use your default email (eg. gmail, yahoo) once you attach a photo to any email, you can scroll down to the attachment and it gives you the option to reduce the photo size (in red to the right of attachment)
THis experience has confirmed my belief that every time a manufacturer changes something it is usually for the worse as far as the consumer is concerned. Many exceptions to that I know...but life sure is rough and tough.

Where are my camera resolution options?
Really Samsung? What is the point of doing that?

When I take multiple photos that need to be attached to an email (which has a max size limit) I now have to open each photo and manually reduce the size of each one before the email will be small enough to send.
Seriously Samsung - you need to fire the person that made this stupid decision. It costs you NOTHING to keep this feature.
All it does is force users to need to upgrade their phone sooner when they run out of storage space.
I hope there is a 3rd party app that allows this to change?

I've just installed an app called Simple Camera - Photo Capturing Camera App & Video. 500k+ DLs 4.0 stars, 4000 reviews.
It does exactly what I need a camera to do without all the bells and whistles. Allows changes in resolution and file size. It even brings back the old Samsung capability for the flash to turn on before the photo is taken. I missed that so much!

"Ridiculous" and "nonsense" are not strong enough words to describe this idiotic configuration. I'm on a website that requires a photo ID submission via mobile photo. I'm getting "out of memory" and "maximum file size exceeded" messages. I cannot proceed with the required financial transactions because I have a Samsung phone. I can't recall the last time I was this frustrated.

Hi! I live in Brasil and have the same problem. If one day you solve it, please let me know. It´s incredible. When I had an S5 I could do that...
