Synchronising Microsoft account contacts+calendar without email - constant "Sign-in failed" notifications

I have a primary email address. The mailbox for this address is hosted on my own server and I access it via IMAP.

I also have a Microsoft account that I log into with this same email address as my username. There is no email associated with this account, but I do store my calendar and contacts there.

Normally this isn't a problem, I just add both accounts to my mail client, with my email account set up to use IMAP and the Microsoft account to use Exchange ActiveSync.

However, I can't seem to do this on Samsung Mail as it insists on having me enter an email address for both accounts and won't let you have two accounts with the same email address username ("This email address is already in use"). My workaround is to put a dummy email address in (instead of primary@email.address I use primary+exchange@email.address) and to then to manually set \primary@email.address as the domain\username and outlook.office365.com as the server address.

This works initially and I can see the calendar and contacts, however the mail client grumbles about not being able to sync email. I've disabled email sync for that account but the message still routinely pops up (as if it was an email notification itself), and if I try to fix it I can't as I can't put in my actual username as that's the email address for my IMAP account.
