Moving photos from main camera album seems to duplicate files?

I'm not sure if I am using it right, but I use the default Samsung Gallery app on my S23 phone to manage and view my photos. I wanted to try and move a load of them to a new custom album I created by using the "new album" button. I moved the photos, but when looking at my storage in the Files app, it seems to have just copied them instead, so I still have the original photo files in the DCIM/Camera folder as well as the new album folder I created.

Surely this isn't normal behaviour for the move function - what am I missing?

Thanks

No, it just copies what you originally had in the camera roll, once you move them it creates a copy as well as the original.

If you use move to album it will move it. It still shows in recent. To check click on the phone and it the top right corner on 3 dots and select detail

I usually create a folder with the files app. Put one picture in it so it shows in the gallery app. Then move photos into it.

But there are options for both copy to album and move to album - surely it defeats the purpose if they both do the same thing? 🤷
