Google Photos - Backup after update 04 September 2024

As a possible heads up to others... My partner and I both had a Google Photos update come through and it seemed to change the backup option from storage saver to original, display duplicate photos and started backing up 20k+ photos....!

I've changed it back to storage saver but it still needed to, i guess, index all the photos again...it didn't take too long but may cause increased battery drain...

interested if anyone else notices this.

I personally do original anyways and then delete the ones I don't want.

Also incase some people may not know whatsapp uses your Google storage as well now.

I've had a backup in the original quality for a couple of years. And anyway, today Google duplicated almost 41,000 photos. It took a couple of hours for me, before Google finished processing. Almost every half of year Google do this, I don't know why.

I do my photo back up on Amazon photos, if you have prime that's included unlimited and original condition not compressed like Google photos

I actually do both - Google photos on storage saver as the app and integration a billion times better than Amazon photos, but then periodically back up photos to Amazon due to the full quality storage... 👍

That's very true, integration is alot better but I don't want to save in Compressed or pay extra

I do have my own NAS with photo back up too, which I love but Google photo interface is pretty good
