I've downloaded spotify music but when I open the downloaded files, it brings me into spotify. I do not want to listen through spotify as there are errors in the app. I've tried deleting spotify and it works completely fine but I would like to keep spotify to download more music

Hi,

When you open any local music file, you should get an option to select the player like in the screenshot.

If you don't see such a dialog, the. Go to Settings > Apps > Spotify > Set as default > Clear defaults > Clear

Also check in Spotify settings if Show audio files from this device is toggled on and turn it off.

I would try using a different player. Use the player to locate your Spotify files, select a file to play and you should get a message asking if you want to use the music player as the default which you should accept.

This solution does not work. There is no option to clear this as the default using the method above.

It sounds like you're having trouble accessing your downloaded Spotify music without launching the app. Here are a couple of suggestions to help you listen to your downloaded music files directly:

  1. Explore Downloaded Files Location: Check the default download location on your device where Spotify stores offline music. Typically, you can find this in your device's storage settings under "Spotify" or a similar folder. Look for the downloaded music files there and try playing them using a media player or music app other than Spotify.

  2. Use a File Explorer: Navigate to the folder where your downloaded Spotify music is stored using a file explorer app on your device. From there, you should be able to locate the music files directly and play them with the media player of your choice.

If you continue to experience issues accessing your downloaded files or if you need further assistance, please let me know!

That's not what I'm looking for. I was sent a file (not music) from someone and the files are trying to open in Spotify and then failing.  They will only open if I delete the Spotify app from the phone.

Try going to spotify's permissions and turn off music and audio

I thought this would end up being the solution, but i looked and i don't even have a "clear defaults" option. (I only got my samsung recently so i don't know if they removed the option since you posted)
