Autodose using lots of detergent

Hi. I bought an autodose machine at the end of Jan. We are using so much detergent compared to manually adding it. This morning I filled the compartment and its half empty after just one wash. I've got it set to x1 concentration as I'm not using extra concentrated detergent. Am I doing something wrong? How often is everyone else filling their autodose compartment?

The softener side seems to be fine.

Check what volume is actually needed manually, then adjust the autodose concentration until it matches

I have the WW90T684 and it says the 1x, 2x, 3x concentration option is for Softener - there is no concentration option for detergent.

The detergent dose setting has a Low, Med or High option. I am using Low and a water hardness setting of Soft and I find the machine is dispensing more than is necessary. I've had to buy a less concentrated detergent as my usual one was over-sudding.

For some reason I've never had the 'Detergent Low' message, even when it needs refilling. The Softener warning message appears though. The machine is only 4 weeks old - not sure if there's a problem with the detergent sensor?

Since my previous post, I've timed the detergent dispensing action on a few different cycles. I timed from when the "Adding detergent" message appears until the 'chugging' noise stopped.

I've discovered that the Super Speed cycle uses 50% more detergent than any of the other cycles tested. Strangely, it seems to dispense the same for both Low and Med dosage options - 20 secs. This cycle has always oversudded for me, unless I put in more items than the recommended 5kg load.

Changing to a less concentrated liquid has helped a little with the suds, but it obviously doesn't change the amount of liquid used.

Here are my observations;

  • Super Speed - 20 secs (Low), 20 secs (Med)
  • Quick Wash - 4 secs (Low), 6 secs (Med)
  • Cotton - 11-14* secs (Low)
  • Colours - 8-10* secs (Low)

*dependent on load as these cycles sense the weight first.

I was using the Super Speed cycle far more frequently than any of the other cycles but have now stopped using it completely.

I have no idea why this cycle uses so much detergent - I can't see any logical reason why it requires 50% more than other cycles. I suspect it has not been programmed correctly - that being the case, a firmware update could correct the dispense duration.

Just bought an auto dose machine and it's gone through half a bottle of soften er in couple of washes I never use this much I have it on low and soft water setting. This surely cant be normal? Hubby said to turn dispenser off and whilst I use pods inside the machine how do I do the softener manually?

a bit of a faff but turn softener autodose off , then do your wash , then when wash is finished (end of cycle jingle) then select  1rinse  and spin(to your required spin speed) after the drum has filled up with water a bit, pause the machine, pull out soap dispenser drawer, add the fabric softener liquid to the middle (manual) compartment.
Hope this helps.

I have same issue,I stopped using auto dose as it uses way too much detergent I can see after 5 rinses the water is still soapy because it comes up the kitchen sink plug hole,I really regret buying this machine,I use synthetic cycle mostly now because it uses way more water so at least rinses better and I manually add a tablespoon or slightly moreof liquid detergent [persil non bio] ,haven't tried auto dispenser with synthetic mode yet but maybe it will rinse better ,as for all other cyles I use half a table spoon of detergent any more and the final rinse water is still soapy when it comes up the plug hole, shame samsung don't test their machines for rinsing properly, also on the cotton cycle it alway's reverts back to 2 rinses after me setting it to 5,I have to manually set it back again,I prefer the old fashioned washing machines I'm not impressed with this one at all.

Have you set it up in the water hardness menu as 'soft water' and tried that setting?

Yes of course,I can't see visible suds in the drum on final rinse but because I get the drainage water coming up kitchen sink plug hole I can see the soapy water, maybe it's meant to coat your clothes with some detergent? I just use tiny amounts of laundry detergent now. On the synthetic cycle however it rinses normal because it uses more water during the cycle.[ haven't tested the autodose with this cycle yet though]

Detergent? - detergent normally means soap when its in the wash cycle itself ... and then you have 'fabric softener' in the rinse cycle - so are you talking that it uses too much detergent or fabric softener? - and at the end do you think its fabric softener that is coming up the sink plug hole rather than detergent?
