@Yportne: While the Bluetooth device is connected, please try heading to Settings > Connections > Bluetooth, and check to see if the battery level is visible next to device details. Alternatively, tap the Home button > Pinch inwards on the Home screen > Widgets > Battery, and try using one of the Battery status widgets to see if this helps.
