I had the same issue and took it back ro samsung to get it looked at.
They came back with it being my fault which I very angry about as I only had it for less then 3 months and it broke all of a sudden as I was opening the fold to show my friend something when I felt it crack as I opened it.
They say it was wear and tear which I believe is B.S and wanted to charge me $955
So I told them to send the phone back.
Yet on the file report it has the phone status as device has been repaired.
Which is not true yet again

My wife's z fold 5 just broke today strait down the middle. Lucky it was still under warranty. Contacted Samsung and they told me to take it out to their local repair shop and get it replaced. I took it to our local uBreakiFix and they replaced it within a few hours for free. It would have cost $599 if it was out of warranty. Best of luck.

My wife's phone broke this morning without any warning or signs of breakage. I was told by the repair shop that these can break for whatever reason including folding and unfolding. Samsung foldable screens are extremely fragile and it's not "if" but "when" they break. Samsung probably make more money off of selling insurance and replacement than the actual phone itself. These phones are not made to last unless you are very luck. This is probably why apple has not move to foldables.

My zfold 5 has a crack right on the inside seem. The phone has been handled with care and never dropped. Crack developed right after warranty expired. I called in and samsung offered no assistance at all, way to stand by your product and customers.what can samsung do for me??? Don't worry I won't hold my breath because samsung hasn't offered assistance yet
