Flip 4 Screen not working properly after October Update

My wife received the October update on her Flip4 phone. Immediately afterwards it started to turn the screen off a little too soon (with a green flash) when closing, then upon re-opening takes half a minute to come back on.

Phone was working fine prior to the update and hasn't been dropped etc. Have tried wiping various caches (as per various forum post suggestions) but nothing helps.

Anyone else experiencing the same? Any ideas how to resolve? Thanks.

Mine is doing exactly the same, it's frustrating.

Yup. My wife has to keep her folding phone permanently unfolded. Mental - you'd assume that ensuring the primary feature of a product still works would be standard test on each software release.  Obviously poor QA in their software department.  She loves the design but she'll never buy a folding one again now.

I don't understand why companies like Samsung  create community sites like, or the capacity to report issues through the members app, if they are going just to be unresponsive.

I took my Flip 4 to the samsung store because the screen would randomly go black when I opened it and that started happening after the software update,  they replaced my battery, screen, hinge and whole exterior (all free of charge since it's under warranty) for the past 2 weeks since I've received it I had no problems until today when I had to do a software update, it happened again, my screen went black when I opened and had to force restart it.. it's definitely a bug on their side with their software updates

That's shocking. They're willing to go through all that cost and trouble, but no response to the forum or to the issue-reports that people send through the app.

My wife got another software update today.  She says it's slightly better (doesn't take quite as long for the screen to turn back on) but it's still not fast enough for her to consider folding it. Plus the small screen still doesn't work properly when the phone is folded.

I just started having this exact issue out of the blue TODAY. I updated my Flip 4 to version 6.1 just a few days ago. Same as everyone else, diagnostic tests say no issues, clearing cache partition didn't help, the technician is asking me to wipe the phone but I'm pretty skeptical that will help at all. I have no solutions to offer, only solidarity. 😞

I have had that problem since october and now it just turns off while I use it, while writting this it turned off 6 times, i cant fold it anymore and i get Green lines flashing on the screen... I just cant use my phone anymore

The only thing the support team say is to report the issue via the Members App.  Hopefully if enough people do they might take it seriously.

Exactly the same since 15.01.2025. I regularly update, didn't experience anything since October till now. Now 100% as described:the shutoff too soon when folding with "flash", the 30s delay to turn on when opening. No errors in member app. Sometimes it works to motivate the screen by touching the upper half.

Additionally sometimes I get notifications  that processes "System" and "Oberfläche"(UI) don't react anymore --> this is combined with the top half getting very hot. Since there is the processor I guess these failed  processes cause this, just happened..

Any of those suffering since October found a solution?

No change unfortunately.  My wife still keeps her phone permanently unfolded. Have not heard any response from Samsung.

I'm sorry to see that people are having these kind of issues with their Z Flip4. If you believe the fault is software-related then I would recommend sending us an Error report.  

By sending us an Error report, our software engineers will be able to receive data logs relating to the problem you are experiencing. This data is anonymised and only held for the duration of the investigation of the report.
