Hi! Welcome to the Samsung Members community!

Do you think it's a software restriction?

No—an update won't allow for 8K 60Hz. It's a hardware limitation. The only way would be an advancement in the camera technology... so a few years.

I cannot imagine what you'd possibly need 8k 60Hz for—hardly any 8k displays in the first place.

I think the OP meant 60 hours. He would run out of memory after 3 hours and then come here saying his phone just died 😂

I prefer updates that are good for my phone based on it's hardware than something that will break my phone because the hardware is not capable to process the new features. If you want upgraded features get next year's phone when it's released.

Ah, that's also equally unrealistic. It would overheat way before too.

If you need 8K60fps you would need to look at a top end dedicated mirrorless right now.

Unless you are planning to post crop the footage there isn't a huge call for the current 8k30fps yet as mentioned by other Members here.

You can get either 4k60fps pixel binned video for better low light performance in Samsung log HEVC for better file size efficiency to internally record and no time limits in the Samsung app.

Or If you need better quality footage free of macroblocking right now on a phone with a good CPU (Ideally Snapdragon) avoiding the intra frame compression container formats to edit you can already shoot Opengate 4060x3060 RAW 60fps in your preference of Log in the MotionCam Pro app to a SSD on a heavy duty gimble to edit in Divinci Resolve once converted on pc as long as your runtimes aren't too long, as the phone will overheat without a good magnetic cooler. This will give you better sampling but at the cost of the app and considerably more investment in time for editing.

You can also shoot via software capture ProRes Log in MotionCam Pro for shorter runtimes for smoother post editing on lower power iOS, Mac and PC (With a dedicated GPU) with a smaller file size than RAW in say standard ProRes for a compromise of limited macroblocking and resistance to re-encoding between editors working on the footage if you are doing this with colleagues or friends. If you choose higher quality ProRes like HQ+ ect it is very taxing but apps like this push the limits of what Android phones can do right now so it's to be expected without dedicated hardware encoders/decoders. Which are unlikely to materialise considering the very slow push for the APV codec.

I think a lot of people underestimate just how taxing continuous frames are for a sensor to not only capture but for the buffer to not choke up saving too.

It will be a good few years before any hardware upgrades like that to a new model. You can get an idea of when this would happen as Samsung's MX division normally announce sensors which they also sell to other mobile clients. Yes it's odd when they don't use their own best tech but style over function leads right now.

The only software improvement i'm aware of we could get right now is the current S23U-S25U getting DCG enabled on the Camera2 Api RAW stream by Samsung as the sensors already support this 12bit recording it's just disabled for 3rd party. Obviously, it's got to be something Samsung are interested in changing though. If it gains more attention on the new Pixel 10 Pro's maybe it could happen 🤷

Yes, if you need more from a camera it's better to buy a dedicated camera or make do with what you've got on your phone and use a third party app, for which you most likely will have to pay premium subscription to get all the features.

MotionCam Pro is a single payment but you're right the RAW editing workflow in Divinci Resolve isn't part of the free tools it's a one off £270 pro upgrade (It does offer a ton free though so it's good for the Samsung Log HEVC footage) You can get some discount codes to gelp though. If it's in your budget it is very good though and better value to me than Adobe.
