Can someone help me understand why trading S23U 256GB has more discount than trading in S23U 1TB/512GB please?

I also had an S23u 512gb model to trade, and i asked this question from a reputable internal source within Samsung. The reason is as follows:

"The prices are based on current 'backmarket -good' value, so thats correct.

"Some devices have variances where lower storage is valued more than higher, but we have to align to market guidance".

So even though I felt that the storage options should have been staggered as expected, I still decided to trade in my 523u model for a slightly lower cost.

Additionally When S23 Series was launched, there was a free double memory upgrade available during pre-order. As a result there are many more 512gb versions in the second hand market which depresses prices as everyone would have opted for a free upgrade.

Conversely there are fewer 256gb models.

Well on that dialouge it neglects the amount of money spent for those who bought it in regular price additionally it doesn't do justice for those who owns the 1TB version, but thanks for this info might help me decide as I'm still contemplating if it's worth the upgrade.

Hello 👋 @cheeserxcx and may I extend a Warm Welcome to the Samsung Community Forum.

We're users here like you so officially it's not known why Samsung has chosen this, and your not the first person to raise an eyebrow at this.

Thanks for the advice on this Smiley.
I appreciate you are quoting sources, but the trade in prices appear correctly tiered for the S23 5G and S23 Plus, based on more storage giving more value. It's only the S23U that is wrong. These S23 models both had free memory upgrades so would be more common.
I contacted Samsung about this within the hour of pre orders going live and was told it would be corrected within 2-3 hours and I could place my order then. Basically, I think someone made a mistake but it's too messy to change it and reimburse customers for the difference.
It's given me pause for thought as to whether to upgrade as an extra £30 would make a big difference. I am really not keen on the faff of selling my phone privately.

I questioned the same logic. I looked at the fold 5, 4, S24 series amongst others. They all seemed correct.

I was also surprised with the values given for the S23u series.
I did see a similar disparity with the s22u as well... one of those values is a bit transposed.

As I said I questioned this from a samsung employee and the response as mentioned above. I think actually the second hand selling market is defining the prices, rather than samsung. You may also find that s24 series are not typically in the market for second hand sales just yet as a one year old phone isn't in flux with second hand sales... yet.

Before the preorders the s23u 512 was £470 so it has dropped a little by £57 to £413.

For me i stacked a couple of discount codes and also used an employee EPP portal that my work provides to get discounts.

Ultimately I felt the phone a bit undervalued but with the offered discounts it didn't bother me as much. I still think I got a great deal for upgrade.

Thanks
Smiley

Thanks, I agree with everything you say and I think I will have to suck it up - the other Samsing preorder deals will vanish soon.
Interesting comparison - the Pixel Pro 9 offers me more for my S23U trade in, but I do like my Samsungs!
