"S25 Ultra Overheating on YouTube? Try this.

I’ve had the S25 Ultra since release, and ever since day one I’ve been dealing with overheating and battery drain — but only when using the YouTube app. Simply watching videos was enough to make the phone heat up.

I tried every suggestion I could find online: clearing the cache, reinstalling YouTube, updating Google Play Services… nothing worked.

Eventually, I figured out the real cause — and it’s specific to YouTube Premium. The problem comes from the resolution setting. If you use1080p Enhanced bitrate (or any setting with “enhanced bitrate”), it pushes the CPU much harder, which leads to overheating and battery drain.

I stopped using Enhanced bitrate entirely, and the overheating issue disappeared. How do I know this is the culprit? Easy — I went days without using Enhanced bitrate and had zero overheating.

The moment I selected enhanced resolution, the phone overheated almost immediately. So if you’re having this issue, try not to select Enhanced bitrate. Problem solved. You’re welcome. I have attatched a picture just to make it clear.

Thankyou for the info, it is very useful for the community. To be honest I never knew this option existed, but I will be aware now.

Glad you managed to find out the issue.

I had something pop up on my S23 ultra saying YouTube is draining battery hard. It's blocked notifications now and battery much better. Interesting take, though, on that enhanced bitrate. I've set my YouTube to the highest settings for watching content and find that 99% of the time, I have to increase it manually.

I would recommend leaving it on just if you are ever watching a review of something comparing quality eg photography though as it is much less prone to youtubes compression blocking so you get a better idea of the capabilities.

I only really use high bitrates when I'm watching desktop tutorials videos as it helps if the uploader has shared a 4k screen be able to track what's actually being selected.

I don't actually get these settings... the only quality settings I can adjust are as attached. (Fold7). So i don't see the options for enhanced bitrate.

Actually I went through around a dozen videos on YouTube and NONE of them had this enhanced bitrate.

I checked the 1080p premium, and it is a youtube premium subscription. That option is only available if you subscribe to youtube premium. That's the standard 1080p.

It's only for YouTube premium subscribers.

You can get a similar reduced CPU advantage if the video has a 30fps version but not all do.

Yes thats for youtube premium members only. It Should be under resolution. Thats what was causing high cpu usage and overheating while using youtube app in my case.
