So bear with me here , Im using apple airport extreme's to put wifi around the house but they're getting on a bit now so need replacing ( we were all apple users , not any more ) I've looked at some on amazon which are wifi 6 mesh routers , does that mean only newer devices will connect ? Some say backwards compatible, are they the ones I need instead as they run older devices and tvs etc ?

Hello @Easty  👋

If i was choosing then the specs I would be looking at js backwards compatible, as not all devices are capable of Wi-Fi⁶ just yet.

I would also have a look at YouTube reviews of the models I'm interested in.

If i can be of any further help please don't hesitate to ask  😎

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.

Hi @Easty

Most routers will accommodate old standards. I have a WiFi 7 (IEEE 802.11 be) router and old devices are able to connect to it.

Old devices won't be able to connect using the newer standards, but they should be able to connect.

I would recommend to get a WiFi 6e, there is no much difference in price and you can get 2.4 GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz. Old devices won't be able to use the 6GHz band, but newer ones will have better speed.

If you have any doubt, after selecting a router you can go to the router's manufacturer's website and check which standards it supports. Usually, it will have which standards supports per band and they would be in the format of IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax.

Your old devices should be using one of these standards, IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n.
