People getting them cheaply in some way.
Some will have upgraded and to get fast money. Sell it, then stop the upgrade leaving the new owner with a blocked phone after a short time
Usually especially on Facebook marketplace and auction sites. All the scammers come out after a new phone launch

Shopping places like that you must do your homework
One usual give away is wanting to get paid outside of the site, and meet up to exchange
Communicating outside of those sites
Too much of a risk now which is why I don't buy from that sort of source anymore

Thieves also reset the device and then try to sell it on quickly to get the cash then disappear.
I wouldn't buy a flagship where the money is higher from a private seller unless I knew them personally as dependable.

Some upgrade via their mobile phone contract and then sell that upgrade to make some money @ianW70
