Why did my S24 restart?

I was using my S24 Plus last night, the only app I had open was YouTube, I was watching it on full screen, the screen brightness was very low with the 'extra dim' setting on, the phone was not hot at all.

All of a sudden, the screen flashed quite bright and then the phone turned off completely. It soon restarted and asked for password, then it worked perfectly afterwards.

I checked the Device Care app to see if there had been any app issues or an auto restart, but it showed nothing, no auto restart has been logged.

So why did my phone all of a sudden do that?

Depends on what apps you're using and if you have restart when required turned on.

The ONLY app open was YouTube.

Auto restart when needed is on, but it says it will do that when the phone is not in use.

Hey there

Have you got auto restart turned on? One of the devices security features is to periodically turn your device off and then back on again.

You can turn this off in settings.

Hi Piper. Yeah it's turned on.

BUT (see my screenshot above) it doesn't show that it was an auto restart. Also, it says it will only restart when the phone is not in use. But I was using it. So ?

Hello @R2wo 👋

This sounds like a glitch to me.  🤔

Do run the diagnostic tool found in your Samsung Members App to see if that highlights anything.

If it does happen again try > Clear Cache Files from the phone's System Partition Section  > https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-do-i-clear-the-cache-on-my-device/ You may need to insert your earphones or hook upto a powered On Laptop or use a Tv's USB Port to access the Clear Partition Section. This may help with lag or stutters as this clears the phone of old/unused or broken cache files.There is also a Repair Apps option in the Menu System too { Possibly excluding the s²⁴ Series of phone's }

And ensure your phone and apps are all updated.

A Samsung Service Centre can assess your phone if necessary.

If i can be of any further help please don't hesitate to ask  😎

Hi BandofBrothers.

Yes - a glitch seems like the only explanation. I've already cleared the cache partition after the last September update.  I'm running all the latest software, 6.1.1 (6.1), Google Play, all  apps are up to date.  I've run the diagnostic tool in Samsung Members, it was all good. I've optimised the phone using Device Care. Everything is fine.
